IPS stands for iron pipe size, while CPS stands for copper pipe size. The main difference between the two is how the outside diameter (OD) is controlled:
IPS: Controlled by the inside diameter (ID). IPS is commonly used in industrial and general piping applications.
CPS: Controlled by the OD. CPS is commonly used in plumbing and potable water systems.
